Tennessee adds elite scorer via transfer portal

Tennessee has received a commitment from Darlinstone Dubar, a 6-foot-7 205 lb. Junior guard/forward out of Hofstra University in New York.

The Volunteers have just snagged their first commitment from this yearโ€™s portal season. After a historic season, the Volunteers have lost three starters to eligibility: Santiago Vescovi, Josiah Jordan-James, and SEC Player of the Year Dalton Knecht. There were three big losses, but fans and the team knew they wouldnโ€™t have those three come the 2024-2025 season. The biggest shockers of this offseason were the surprises of Big Man and All-SEC first-teamer Jonas Aidoo and Sophomore wing Tobe Awaka entering their names into the Transfer portal. Both were projected starters for the 2024-2025 team.

Freshmen Freddy Dillione and DJ Jefferson also entered their name into the portal.

The news couldnโ€™t have come at a better time, as the team's fans were becoming restless. The Volunteers had to fill six open scholarships, and they only added a recruit from the 2024 class to the team for next season: four-star point guard Bishop Boswell. Dubar visited the Volunteers this past weekend, along with Belmont Transfer Cade Tyson. Dubar, during his Junior season at Hofstra, averaged 17.8 points, and 6.8 rebounds and earned himself All-CAA second-team honors.

With the loss of big-time scorer Dalton Knecht, the Volunteers were in search of a guy who can score on all three levels, as well as someone who could take over games. Dubar shot 53.9% from the field and 39.9% from three and showed that on any given night he can drop 30 points in a flashy explosion. His ability to blow by defenders, muscle himself to the basket, and spot up for three gives the Volunteers just what they wanted entering this offseason.

The Volunteers look to ride the momentum of the commitment throughout the offseason. Dubarโ€™s timely commitment gave fans a little hope going into the next season. We donโ€™t expect Dubar to be the next Dalton Knecht, but who knows, maybe Darlinstone Dubar cements himself in Tennessee history in his own unique way.
