Code’s Corner: Recapping another week of Tennessee sports

Well, ladies and gents the Orange/White game is behind us and there is a lot to be excited about! It is only a spring game but it is safe to say that the QB room behind Nico Iamaleava is capable. Furthermore, with this group of wide receivers, the coaches will have tough decisions on who gets snaps as that room is loaded. We did not see much of the starting offensive line as the spring is an opportunity for guys to get reps. With the amount of previous experience at those positions, Tennessee needed to solidify who would be the depth pieces along the line. Mike Matthews looked exactly like we all thought he would and should have an immediate impact as well as Boo Carter who can play almost any position on the field. In other football news, the Spring transfer portal has opened and Elijah Herring, Tennessee’s leading tackler last season, wasted no time throwing his name in the mix. Seeing who steps up to fill his shoes will be interesting, but the talent is there with players like Arion Carter and Edwin Spillman.

In basketball news, Lady Vol head coach Kim Caldwell has made a few moves to the coaching staff hiring Roman Tubner, Jenna Burdette, Gabe Lazo, and Angel Rizor who are all hungry to succeed. On the men’s side, Tennessee had a rough week with players entering the transfer portal but landed a solid player in Darlinstone Dubar from Hofstra, who averaged 17.8 PPG and 6.8 REB per game. With the departure of Awaka and Aidoo, it will be interesting to see who else Coach Barnes and staff have their eyes on to fill the void. Your BaseVols swept the LSU Tigers this past weekend, but you can read more in-depth information from our buddy @AnakinVolwalker on those outstanding performances! Lastly, Lady Vols Softball dropped the first game at Mississippi State 9-1 but bounced back strongly taking the next 2 games over the weekend!
