Cam Ward is Selected #1 Overall by the Tennessee Titans

The cats finally out of the bag. After much early discussion over whether to trade the pick, take Carter/Hunter, or even draft Sanders one overall the Titans nail the pick with the consensus best QB in the draft.

Cam Ward will be an instant starter for the Titans this year after a rollercoaster 3 year span of pitiful QB play from washed Tannehill, erratic Malik Willis, and Mr. Mayonnaise Will Levis and journey man QB Mason Rudolph. The buck finally stops with Ward. Cam has become the highest drafted QB in Oilers/Titans history.

New General Manager Mike Borgonzi has made his stamp on the Tennessee Titans for years to come. Whether this turns out good or bad will certainly be the question as we look back on this draft class that started with Ward at 1.1. However, it’s undeniable that QB was a huge position of need for the Titans this offseason, and the team did little to address the position outside of signing Brandon Allen. The Titans were never in on big free agent QBs Sam Darnold and Justin Fields and neither sniffed around for a trade for Geno Smith, Derek Carr, or Matthew Stafford. The organization since meeting with Cam Ward at the combine has seemingly been in lockstep all the way. Jeff Darlington reported earlier today that, “[The Titans] were never moving off the pick.”

Cam Ward turned around several programs in college: first with Incarnate Word, Wazzu, and lastly the previous year at Miami as they became relevant after decades of bad football. Ward was a Heisman Finalist last year as he passed for 4,313 39 TDs and 7 interceptions. He became the all-time leader TD passer in NCAA Division 1 history with 158 pass touchdowns.

One of Ward’s best traits is his leadership. See video below:

His leadership is exactly what you want to hear from a potential franchise QB. There’s been many additional stories that attest to the same. If Cam Ward can take over the locker room year one and prove some semblance of starting QB ability that will be a strong win for a rebuilding year in which the Titans are bound to still be deplete of talent post draft. Cam Ward has a chance to do what few Titans and Oilers QBs have done before— become a Franchise QB.
