Tennessee Baseball looks to continue its postseason success.

After Tennessee’s first SEC series of this season, the vibes were not great. The Vols blew the rubber match in Tuscaloosa and the legion of the miserable was out in full force.

“This team sucks.”

“The pitching isn’t good enough.”

“Tony still can’t manage the bullpen.”

Well, now that we are nearly 3 months past that point we can safely say that the eternally miserable portion of the fanbase was yet again wrong. The Vols are coming off their second regular season SEC title under coach Vitello and will be hosting a regional for the 3rd time under coach Vitello. After that first series, the Vols went 21-6 in the toughest baseball conference in the country. In fact, anything less than that incredible run in which the Vols won 9 straight series wouldn’t have been enough to win the title. Technically the Kentucky Wildcats earned a share of the title as they had the same conference record as the Vols. However, we all know who truly holds the title as Tennessee won the series against the Wildcats in Lexington. Deep in their hearts, the KCA knows that they can’t honestly call themselves the champs.

The Vols will play their first game in Hoover tomorrow as the #1 seed in the SEC tournament, and honestly, the priority should be keeping everyone fresh/uninjured. The SEC tournament is a chance for the fringe SEC teams on the bubble to make some noise before the final field is released. Tennessee needs no such resume-boosting at this point as their home-field advantage through Omaha is firmly entrenched. Get A.J. Russell ready, stay healthy, and don’t pick up any stupid suspensions.

Here’s to the Vols setting sail on another Omaha run, and here’s to the Vols making some noise once they get there.
