Code’s Corner: Softball and baseball are on a roll

In my trip to Knoxville this weekend the Lady Vols punched their ticket to the softball Super Regional after blanking Virginia in not in only one meeting but two meetings in a total of 18-0. In the same weekend the Base Vols swept South Carolina to secure a “share” of the SEC Regular Season Championship but landed the #1 seed for SEC Tournament because of the head-to-head matchup with Kentucky. Mixed in all that excitement the weekend also saw a lot of Lady Vols and Volunteer Baseball players get recognized for their in-season performance. Christian Moore and Blake Burke both are Semi Finalists for The Golden Spikes Award. Also, Christian Moore and Dylan Dreiling were tabbed as first-team All-SEC while Blake Burke and Kavares Tears were named second-team All-SEC and BOTH also were awarded All Defensive Team! Lastly on the baseball side of things Dean Curley was selected for SEC All-Freshman Team and Drew Beam was selected for Scholar- Athlete of the Year! Congratulations for all your hard work! Now on the softball side of things Payton Gotshall, Kiki Milloy, Karlyn Pickens, and Zaida Puni we all award All-Region Honors! Karlyn Pickens has been named to USA Softball’s Top 10 Watchlist for National Player of the Year. The Lady’s also had quite a few that were awards All-SEC Honors! Kiki Milioy, Sophia Nugent, and Zaida Puni made the All-SEC Second Team! And McKenna Gibson, Karlyn Pickens, and Rylie West were selected for the All-SEC First Team! Mixed in all the coach Karen Weekly was awarded SEC Coach of the Year with Karlyn Pickens being awarded SEC Pitcher of the Year! The Lady Vols will host their Super Regional in Knoxville this weekend against Alabama! It is safe to say that both teams a poised and ready to push for the CWS and the WCWS! Good luck to both squads in the coming weeks and always GO BIG ORANGE!
